Galatasaray v Chelsea 26.02.14 | Champions League Update 2014

TEAM NEWS:

Galatasaray are likely to be without Aurelien Chedjou as the Cameroonian defender has missed Gala's past four games with a groin injury. However, the Turkish club are boosted by the return of Aydin Yilmaz and Gokhan Zan. Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder both enjoyed great success under Jose Mourinho and will be looking to get one over their former boss.

Chelsea welcome back defender David Luiz and midfielder John Obi Mikel for Wednesday's Champions League last-16 first-leg tie at Galatasaray.
The pair missed Saturday's 1-0 win against Everton through injury but have travelled with the Blues to Istanbul.
Brazilian playmaker Oscar is also part of the squad, despite being substituted at the weekend with an ankle injury.
January signings Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah are cup-tied, having played earlier in the competition.

PROBABLE LINEUPS:

Galatasaray : Muslera, Zan, Balta, Chedjou, Telles, Innan, Melo, Sari, Sneijder, Drogba, Yilmaz

Chelsea : Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, Ramires, Luiz, Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Torres

 FC Schalke 04:
The FC Schalke 04 host Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening. Real arrive as clear favourites in Gelsenkirchen, but Schalke performed well the recent weeks and have nothing to lose in this encounter.

The FC Schalke made a very good start to the new year, Schalke are unbeaten in their last 8 games in all competitions, including all 5 games since returning from the winter break which will give them confidence ahead of this game. They are unbeaten in 5 games at home, but saw their 4 game winning run come to an end this weekend when they could only earn a goalless draw with Mainz.

The German team have a number of injury worries ahead of the welcome of Real, with Marco Höger, Dennis Aogo, Atsuto Uchida and Christian Clemens all sidelined. Draxler, who garnered transfer interest from Arsenal and Real, is also hobbled by a thigh injury, but he should play

Real Madrid:

The Spanish giants travel to the Veltins Arena for the first-leg of their last 16 tie with Schalke having won just one of their previous 25 visits to German opposition, with their solitary victory coming against Bayer Leverkusen in 2000.

However, Carlo Ancelotti's in-form side should be confident going into the clash in Gelsenkirchen, having moved three points clear at the top of La Liga last weekend.

Real Madrid are now unbeaten in their last 26 games in all competitions and they have won 5 in a row and 13 of their last 14 games which will give the side plenty of confidence and belief moving forward. Real Madrid are also unbeaten in their last 14 away games and have won 7 of their last 8 on their travels.

Sami Khedira is Carlo Ancelotti's only injury concern, while Gareth Bale and Luka Modric are both doubts. Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao are likely to be in contention for starting places after they missed the weekend’s triumph over Elche.

Arsenal vs Bayern Munich February 19, 2014, UEFA Champions League Preview

Arsenal Vs Bayern Munich is an upcoming game of Champions league for round of 16. This is the first leg of both teams of this round which will takes place on The Emirates stadium.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsenal plays host to Bayern Munich, and having come off a revenge filled win over Liverpool, they will be determined to repeat their results against this German Squad.

The Gunners were knocked out by Bayern at the same stage of the competition last season despite a 2-0 win in Munich – one of just three losses the German giants suffered in 2013.

But Arsenal – who won four matches to finish second in Group F - have not lost at home in their last 13 games and defender Per Mertesacker is confident of another positive result.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said: "Football is not a chess game, it belongs to the players. When the game starts, it's (about) the right decisions on the pitch.

"We as managers prepare the team to do well, we take responsibilities when it doesn't go well, but don't forget the main heroes are out on the pitch, not on the bench.

"They play a bit higher up as a unit (since winning the Champions League last season), but overall they have the same players. Schweinsteiger is coming back and he has been replaced by Thiago, who is a Spanish-type player, but overall the players are the same."

Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud, Kieran Gibbs, Wojciech Szczesny and Bacary Sagna will all return to the starting lineup.
Tomas Rosicky could play on the right, while Jack Wilshere could play in central midfield with Mikel Arteta suspended.

Bayern Munich Team News:

Bayern Munich is 19-2-0 in the Bundesliga so far with a goal difference of 57-9. Simply amazing stats! If possible the team seems improved compared to last season when they won everything. In the calendar year of 2013 they played two English clubs, Arsenal and Man City. They won both those games away from home. They did however lose against both clubs when at home.

Xherdan Shaqiri tore his hamstring on Saturday and will miss out, while fellow winger Franck Ribery is ruled out after undergoing buttock surgery.

But two substitute appearances look to have put Bastian Schweinsteiger back in first-team contention as his comeback from an ankle injury continues.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen vs Paris Saint-Germain 18/02/2014 | UEFA Champions League Preview

Leverkusen vs PSG, UEFA Champions League Preview

Date: February 18, 2014 7:45 PM GMT

KICK-OFF: Tuesday, 7.45pm

Venue: BayArena — Leverkusen

Referee:‬ V. Kassai

Competition: UEFA Champions league 2013-14

PAST MEETINGS:
The two sides have never meet in a competitive match.

TV: on Sky Sports 1, beIN SPORTS 2, beIN SPORTS 5, beIN SPORTS HD 2, beIN SPORTS HD 5

Bayer Leverkusen:

Bayer Leverkusen play host to Paris Saint Germain in the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

In 2002, Bayer Leverkusen reached the final of the Champions League at Hampden Park, where they were eventually defeated by Real Madrid.

Since then, the German club have never gone beyond the last 16 of the competition, although they have an opportunity to end that 12-year wait with a two-legged contest against Paris Saint-Germain, the first of which will take place at the BayArena on Tuesday night.

Leverkusen come into the match having lost five of their last seven games, including a shock home defeat by second-division side Kaiserslautern in the German Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Leverkusen, meanwhile, will be without midfielder Emre Can due to suspension, while Stefan Reinartz (foot) is a doubt. Strikers Eren Derdiyok (foot) and Robbie Kruse (knee) also miss out through injury.

"I'm very happy with the way my team played [against Schalke]. It was very different from Wednesday's game," said former Liverpool player and current Leverkusen coach Sami Hyypia.

"The lads showed a lot of character. We can get a result on Tuesday if we play like that."

Paris Saint-Germain:

Paris Saint-Germain reached the quarter-finals of last season's Champions League under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti and look to be among the contenders this term as they prepare to face Bayer Leverkusen, PSG have lost three of their six meetings with clubs from the Bundesliga.

Paris Saint-Germain have only lost 1 of their last 13 games in all competitions since the 2-1 loss at Benfica, while they are unbeaten in their last 7 games on their travels. The side have drawn 2 of their last 3 away games including 1-1 at Monaco in their most recent game away from the Parc de Princes, but they have won the other 5 games on this 7 game unbeaten run.

PSG, they have been dealt a blow with the news that Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani will miss the trip with a hamstring injury that he picked up earlier this month.

Laurent Blanc nevertheless has a strong squad to choose from, and they will be boosted by a 3-0 win over Valenciennes at the weekend which preserved their five-point lead at the top of Ligue 1.

"When you win 3-0, you can only congratulate your players," said Blanc.

"Although in truth, I think they've had their minds on Leverkusen for quite a while now.

"We were able to make some changes in order to prepare for Tuesday's Champions League game so that's good."

Blanc will be able to follow the game from the touchline after a one-match ban was suspended by UEFA last week.

Match Preview: Manchester City vs. Barcelona - UEFA Champions League - Round of 16 - Tuesday, 18/02/2014

After a long wait, the UEFA champions league is back with its next round i.e. Round of 16. In the first game of this round, Manchester City will host Barcelona at the Etihad Stadium.  on Tuesday, February 18th, 2014.  No matter what is their performance in domestic league, this is the toughest head to head of both teams & especially when they are facing each other in world’s biggest football league.

Manchester City most recently beat Chelsea 2-0 in the FA Cup, after losing to them 0-1 at home in the league the week before. Samir Nasri and Alvaro Negredo, who were out with injuries for some time, made a return to the lineup in the last game. They are most welcome back, as the team struggled in their absence. Stevan Jovetic, who has been out for most of the current season, started the last game, played well and scored a sweet goal. This is good news for City, as their star striker, Sergio Aguero, is still out with injury. Manchester City are very much in contention for four trophies this season and have, for the most part, been a powerhouse, especially at home. This is the club’s first ever UEFA Champions League knockout stage and they earned it by finishing second in Group D, behind Bayern and ahead of Plzen and CSKA. And despite this fact, City were able to beat the German champions and finish on 15 points - two more than Barca gained in Group H.

Barcelona are in great form at the moment. They just trashed Rayo Vallecano 6-0 in the league. Mid-week, Barca earned their spot in the Copa del Rey final by eliminating Real Sociedad, while a few days earlier, they beat Sevilla 4-1 in the league. Messi scored two goals in the last game and Neymar added a last minute beauty. Barcelona are at the top of the Spanish La Liga tables, in the finals of the Spanish cup and they are coming out as the number one team from Group H, which also featured Milan, Ajax and Celtic. Messi is in form. Neymar is back. Even Puyol started the last game. Barcelona are playing well and looking good!
